UN Says Wealthy Countries Must Increase Public Spending

Rich countries must boost public spending and kickstart growth if the world is to avoid a damaging slowdown in emerging economies slow, as the. the arms trade and investment in the UN, UNCTAD

In its annual report on trade and development agency based in Geneva warned that developed countries risk falling into "secular stagnation" - a long period of sluggish economic growth, driven by weak consumer demand.

With many emerging economies suffer from crises, UNCTAD argues the outlook for global growth dark seem less rich countries can increase their growth rate, which could mean boost public investment and the fight against inequalities by increasing wages.

"Strengthening public investment should be a key instrument to address the secular stagnation," said UNCTAD, adding that pushing wages through an "incomes policy" should also help in increasing productivity workers - something George Osborne hopes to achieve with its "national living wage."
