IMF Cuts Growth Outlooks for US, UK, Japan and Canada

The International Monetary Fund cut its global growth forecast for 2015, after a harsh winter led to a weak start in the US.

in an update of its World Economic Outlook (WEO), the IMF based in Washington said it now expected global production will increase 3.3%, down 3.5% it pencil it three months ago.

He also shaved its forecast for four of the G7 major industrialized countries - the US, UK, Japan and Canada - and said that the risks to its outlook were tilted to the downside

growth. the US is now projected at 2.5% this year, versus 3.1% the IMF forecast in April. UK growth forecasts were reduced from 2.7% to 2.4% in 2015 and 2.3% to 2.2% in 2016.

The WEO update showed global growth to 3.3% in 2015, slightly below the 3.4% recorded in 2014. in 2016, growth is expected to strengthen to 3.8%.

IMF said he saw the activity in advanced economies pick up from 2.1% this year to 2.4% in 2016, but admitted that the expected growth acceleration had yet to materialize.

"Disruptive changes in asset prices and a further increase in financial market volatility remains a significant risk," he said. "Increasing actual production and potential through a combination of demand and support structural reforms continue to be the priority of economic policy."
